The London Rank and File Group is a new collective focused on mass organising in our workplaces and communities. We take part in workplace struggles to enhance our class’s capability to make change from below.

We are motivated by the urgent need to rebuild working class organisation and develop a new generation of communist organisers and militants. Together we’re shaping a communist political practice fit for the present.

What we do

1.
We support each other to organise in our workplaces to build power and win changes right now, finding ways to act independently of union bureaucracy when needed, and develop imaginative organising strategy.

2.
We challenge each other to organise politically at work, to use our industrial strength to change our workplaces and society, coordinating across workplaces, unions and social movements to build more powerful struggles.

3.
Salting. We aim to support comrades getting jobs in strategically important sectors to organise them.

4.
Our meetings and events involve:
  • mutual support and learning together;
  • inquiry and experimentation — developing a deeper understanding of our work;
  • joint projects organising new workplaces.

We currently focus on intentional recruitment and public facing events, developing a cadre of organisers with the commitment and support to carry out mass organising work. We are a diverse group that doesn’t follow any specific strand of communist thought, but are united by shared communist principles. We work towards a unity of practice, even without complete agreement.
